The driver,… read more The 76th Annual Pike County Steer and Heifer Show and Goat Show will get underway with animal check-in at 10 a.m. Saturday at Cattleman Park followed by lunch with the Pike County Cattlemen. The public is invited.Tammy Powell, Pike County Cattlewoman, said those who have an interest in the promotion of the cattle industry in Pike County and its youth are encouraged to join the Cattlemen, Cattlewomen and participating youth and their families for lunch and then stay for the shows.The Pike County Goat Project Show will begin at 1:30 p.m. with 23 youngsters between the ages of two and eight competing. “This is our third year for the goat show, which is an opportunity for young people to learn how to take care of animals and how to accept responsibility for them,” Powell said. “This helps these young people know if they want to have a calf later and take on that responsibility.”The goat show is divided into two parts. During the regular show, the animals will be led into the arena for judging. “Next is the costume show,” Powell said. “The goats can be dressed any way the kids want. The goats might be dressed as Elvis, President Trump or Wonder Woman.
