UVU Baseball Set To Open Season Friday At Abilene Christian

first_img FacebookTwitterLinkedInEmailABILENE, Texas-Friday, Utah Valley baseball opens its 2020 season on the road against Abilene Christian of the Southland Conference.The Wolverines will draw the Wildcats for a three-game series running through Sunday.Utah Valley’s leading standouts last season that have returned include sophomore infielder Mick Madsen, who posted 31 RBI in 2019.Senior outfielder Alexander Marco led UVU last season with six home runs, 13 doubles, 42 RBI and a .450 slugging percentage.Other key returning starters that have returned from last season include senior infielder Kade Poulson, junior catcher Drew Sims and junior first baseman/designated hitter Pacen Hayes, senior outfielder Jake Berry and sophomore outfielder Jake Plecas.Senior right-handed pitcher Jesse Schmitt posted five saves and 31 strikeouts in 30.1 innings of work as a reliever in 2019.The Wolverines are 4-12 (.250) all-time in season openers and 11-42-1 (.260) all-time on opening weekend.Wolverines head coach Eric Madsen is 297-318 (.483) in his 12th season at the helm of the program.The Wildcats are coached by Rick McCarty (26-26, .500) who is entering his second season leading the program.Junior outfielder Colton Eager (.300 batting average, 39 hits, 12 RBI) is the Wildcats’ leading returner from last season.This series commemorates the Wolverines’ first all-time match-up against the Wildcats in program history.
