One longtime customer sees the the closure as a wake up call to shop local. Mario Mughetti echoed that sentiment. “It’s a tough day for the community it’s a tough day for us to have to do this, but we gave it our best,” he said. “‘We tried to revive it and tried to get it to move but unfortunately it’s not going to happen,” he said. Online shopping has siphoned business from the store. “The internet is hard to compete with we all tend to shop online but we still need to shop locally it’s important to support our local businesses and local community,” said Danielle Yurka of Binghamton. “You can get this stuff online you don’t have to go into a store,” Mughetti said, “We’re a society of convenience and convenience is the internet.” HILLCREST (WBNG) — After more than 80 years Phil’s Gift Shop on East Service Road in Hillcrest will be closing it’s doors.
