VP BOAKAI Turns over $1.4M UK Church Donation to MOH

Boakai has turned over a 40-ft container loaded with “critical medical and other supplies” to the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (MoHSW) and the National Ebola Task Force (NETF).The donation is designed to beef up the fight against the deadly Ebola virus that is claiming more lives in Mano River basin, including Liberia.The container, marked “Ebola Only,” was turned over to the MOHSW during a brief ceremony held at the Freeport of Monrovia and attended by Liberian Government officials.Speaking at the ceremony, VP Boakai expressed thanks to Rev.Trevor Cockings of His Church for the donation.  His Church is an international charity based in the United Kingdom, which is devoted to relief and humanitarian work for the donation.This donation will go a long way in the fight against the epidemic, the VP said.Amb. Boakai said the shipment of these supplies to Liberia at the time when the nation is battling the Ebp;a virus, which has so far killed over 2100 persons in Liberia, was a significant contribution to the fight against the deadly disease.  He assured the donors that the items would be used for the intended purpose.The other two containers with food and non-food items will go to residents in “quarantined communities” with basic needs, while helping to contain the spread of the virus and the loss of additional lives, he added.However, it is yet unclear what will be done with the two containers, as there are no more communities in the country that are under “quarantined.”Speaking to journalists after the ceremony, Vice President Boakai said he has confidence in the mechanism put into place for the distribution and consumption of the supplies sent to the country by His Church.He acknowledged the roles played by the National Oil Company of Liberia, the National Social Security and Welfare Corporation of Liberia and the National Port Authority of Liberia in underwriting the costs associated with shipment of the containers to Liberia.VP Boakai also praised Liberia’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, Amb. Rudolf Von Ballmoos, and his staff for facilitating the process.The VP said the shipment is the first in the series expected in coming weeks.
