Aids to Navigation to Be Installed at Freeport

first_imgThe Management of the National Port Authority (NPA) has announced the installation of Aids to Navigation at the Freeport of Monrovia by a world renowned supplier, PHAROS MARINE, in compliance with the International Association of Light House Authority (IALA).Aids to navigation are special structures such as lighthouses, lightships, beacons, buoys, etc., that are used to enhance safety by providing more opportunities to the shipping industries.According to NPA statement, the installation will be completed and installed by April 30; and consequently, the Freeport, in three decades, will operate on a 24/7 basis effective May 2016.The installation of the Aids to Navigation at the Freeport of Monrovia will make it the second port in the country to receive the facility; Buchanan is the first to receive Aids to Navigation installed there by ArcelorMittal Liberia.NPA statement revealed that after the installation of the Aids to Navigation at the Free Port, it will help increase economic activities, which would culminate into increased government revenue and additional job opportunities for Liberians, adding: “This means we have taken a step toward becoming a competitive port in the region.”The NPA management also used the medium to express gratitude to President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf for the support in the modernization of the port sector, including the milestone event which is a game changer in the shipping world.Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)last_img
