STATE REP RACE QA Meuse Prinzivalli Robertson Talk OPIOID EPIDEMIC

first_imgWILMINGTON, MA — In recent sit-down interviews at Wilmington Community Television’s studios, the three candidates running in the 19th Middlesex State Representative Race were asked what they will do to help with the opioid epidemic in the district and state-wide.“After reviewing the Governor’s Opioid Addiction Working Group’s Action Plan, a lot has been done, but a lot more still needs to be done,” said Patricia Meuse (I-Tewksbury). “The prevention, intervention and treatment initiatives — there are still a lot pending or not in progress, such as reviewing GIC Insurance Plans and removing fail first policies and prior authorization protocols that impede access to treatment. They need to be completed… We need to look at other states and countries to see what they’ve tried and what has worked, such as Casey’s Law in Kentucky…”“I believe in early education, having proper education and prevention programs, and properly funding treatment facilities and recovery facilities,” responded Pina Prinzivalli (R-Tewksbury). “As I’ve been door-knocking, I’ve been hearing the same things from residents. And they’d also like to see tougher punishments on the drug dealers.”“I worked with Representative Miceli to help an organization open up a new sobriety model that seeks to be non-profit, so we’re not gauging $3,000-$4,000 a month out of some of these families and health insurance companies, that is looking to alleviate maximum state caps eventually, and has some other really great ideas. I believe that model is something the state government can discuss…,” answered Dave Robertson (D-Tewksbury). “…Last cycle, the legislature expanded the number of beds, provided government funding to increase the number of public beds, and expanded Mass Health… to help the victims of [this epidemic] get back up on their feet.”Like Wilmington Apple on Facebook.
